      The first LP album by Czeslaw Niemen, now with his own group AKWARELE, was published in 1967. And this was a groundbreaking event in Polish musical history.

      Out of many recordings Niemen produced over next 35 years this album was probably the most successful commercially, most widely known across all generations and it is still the first album that comes to mind when the name "Niemen" is mentioned. The title song "Dziwny jest ten swiat" was so well known that I seriously doubt if there is a person living in Poland who never heard it then, or later. After almost 40 years this still is [b]THE SONG[/b] which he is remembered for. No wonder, in December of 1968 this album became the first "gold record" in the history of Polish recording industry (if there was such an industry, of course :) ).

      This album changed many aspects of life in Poland in that time and its influence on the music scene was only one of the effects. But this might a topic for a long cultural and sociological study....
