Wildstrings Comments: Meera Bai is most famous Indian poetess from 14th century who is noted for her immeasurable love and praise for "Lord Krishna." Meera wrote more than 1300 songs which become largely popular both in folklore, mainstream as well as in classical especially in thumri repertoire. There were many movies on the life of Meera but two movies are most famous. The first was made in 1945 which features M.S. Subbulaxmi (One Of the greatest singers of Carnatic Classical) as Meera and the other is this one which was famous for Ravi Shankar's involvement as it's musical director. Vani Jayaram, the lead singer of this soundtrack has got many awards for this soundtrack including Filmfare award. Although Vani Jayaram sung these songs exceptionally, Personally I always feel a thumri singer like Lakshmi Shankar would have done more justice for these songs. Recommended.
