Hailing from Malmö, Sweden, Sgt. Sunshine is a three-piece stoner rock band that blends and seemlessly alternates melody and heavily distorted riffing with a powerful bass-lead and mid-paced drumming background. Vocals are clean and sing-song, sometimes done in Spanish.

The original lineup had Cuban-born Eduardo Fernandez-Rodrigues on guitar and vocal duties, Pär Hallgren on bass and Christian “Kricke” Lundberg on drums. They released a few demos in 2000 and their self titled album in 2003.

In early 2005, the band members went their different ways, and Eduardo recruited Chilean bassist Michael Mino and Egyptian drummer Robin Rubio to record and release Black Hole in 2006.

      ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Alright, some psychedelic goodness from the start! If you are the kind of guy that likes the climatic builds of early-mid seventies Pink Floyd and psychedelic groove/jam rock in general from that era, then this is definitely going to be a contender in your book. SGT Sunshine is for the most part one of the newer bands out there hitting the nail on the head as far as classic progressive hard rock goes. SGT Sunshine likes their laid back space grooves for certain, and it's evident within the first few minutes of their self titled CD; but they are also contributing their own brain and muscle into the sound.

But it isn't just about Pink Floyd or stoner riffs, these guys also have a hard doom tinged edge that is gritty and real rocking at times with blues leads drenched over the top of the mix. Grooves are guitar rock oriented, very late 60's with newer progressive feels, and more overdriven than fuzz. Sgt. Sunshine pays attention to the detail of their tones, on top of being damn fine players.

Get SGT. Sunshine if you like grooving psychedelic guitar rock with instrumental jams at times, and basically all that is stoner. Nothing too new or fancy, but they sure the job done right. File near the progressive classic rock section of your stoner stuff, next to Mammoth Volume, Kyuss and Colour Haze. And again, this album could almost pass for something that never got release 30 years ago...an era appropriate album for certain.

It's a must have album for all Kyuss fans, for stoner-rockers who like melody and fuzzy sounds. They got some jams but they bring you back where you want to be, right at the beginning of the next kick ass song or riff. I think they produced the album themselve and they for sure made a great job!
