Part 4 of this consistently high-quality series has gone against the norm by actually being as good - if not better than the previous 3. I have been a keen fan of the '60's Mod scene for years, but every tune on this album was a pleasant surprise - it's like discovering a whole new scene all over again.
If ever there was a musical embodiment of Pop Art, 'Doin The Mod Vol. 4' is it - taking the classic '60's R&B sound of early Mod and shaking it up into the multi-coloured, exciting energy of Freakbeat, Power Pop and up-beat proto-Psychedelia.

The series' amazing ability to avoid the usual 'Sixties compilation-fodder (except one albeit obscure Kinks number)should make this worthwile for even the most die-hard Modernist.

And it's worth the price alone just to hear David Bowie in his little-known Mod phase, plus an early incarnation of Status Quo that will astound you! In fact, I'm off to see if Amazon has any 'Spectres' albums right now!

An excellent selection of some harder-to-find sixties gems.

The compilers have worked hard to find something different without compromising quality - some so-called Mod collections recycle good but very familiar material. To me this is the real deal.

Thoroughly recommended at the bargain prices on offer. As a keen collector of British sixties output I don't know how this series by-passed me for so long.
