VA -Rare Blues & Soul from Nashville The 1960s Vol. 2
      Release Date: Mars 15, 2010
Label: SuperBird Records (SBIRD 0016 CD)

Nashville has always been known as the home of modern country music, but the Music City earned its nickname because it was a place where all types of music were performed and recorded. Most people are surprised to learn that a lot of Blues and Soul Music was recorded and/or released by independent labels in Nashville.
Artists like B.B. King, Wynonie Harris, Big Joe Williams, Smokey Hogg, St. Louis Jimmy Oden, Joe Tex, Joe Simon, Cecil Gant, Betty LaVette, Slim Harpo, Lazy Lester, Roscoe Shelton and Lightning Slim recorded for Nashville record companies during the heyday of the independent labels (1940s-1970s).
This compilation features some of the lesser known blues and soul artists who recorded for small labels there in the 1960s. That's not to say that these recordings are in any way of lesser quality, but because they were recorded for small companies they didn't get the exposure they deserved.
These records are all prized by collectors and several bring hundreds of dollars on the rare vinyl market.
The records these little companies made, however, just continued to grow in stature over the years, and the recordings featured on this compilation are an important chapter in the ever evolving story of Nashville....Music City USA.
