      Between 1966 and 1972 the Move recorded an eclectic range of material ranging from pop to heavy rock, dabbling with psychedelic undertones along the way. This four-disc retrospective showcases their inventiveness, along with the songwriting talent of Roy Wood and features recordings and line ups from throughout the band's six year career. Alongside the 50s rock 'n' roll influenced 'California Man', 'Anthology 1966-1972' also includes their biggest UK hits such as 'BlackberryWay', 'Flowers In The Rain' and 'Fire Brigade' as well as outtakes, tracks from across all four of their studio albums,and their entire 1968 Marquee show


      The move was only around for a short period during that time they had many line up changes and morphed into the electric light orchestra.
      This thoughtfully put together Anthology takes you from the first demos (You're The One I Need) by the move, Mod classics through to the final single `California Man'
      The first disc covers the original line up Ace Kefford, Bev Bevan, Carl Wayne, Trevor Burton and Roy Wood, and includes `Night of Fear' `Fire Brigade' and `Flowers in the Rain' plus a host of songs from the first album.
      Disc 2 dates from the `Something else' EP live show, now including Move originals and remixed into stereo for the first time.
      Disc 3 takes in sessions from late 67 and 1968 and early 1969 where the band in quick succession lost Ace Kefford and Trevor Burton to be replaced by Rick Price on bass, after Jeff Lynne could not be tempted away from the Idle Race. Songs and singles from this time show a heavier side to the Move with the proto metal `Blackberry way' and `Wild tiger woman' shine along with tracks from the `Shazam' album.
      Disc 4 takes in the last two move albums along with a Live version of I can here the grass grow from the `Fillmore concerts' (I hope that gets a full release). During this period Carl Wayne and Rick Price left and Jeff Lynne was finally drafted in from the `Idle Race', This disc starts to show the routes of ELO with splendid songs `Turkish Tram Conductor Blues' and `Feel Too Good' from the `Looking on' album and `Ella James' and `Tonight' from the, `messages from the Country' album. As well as 'Do Ya' a Jeff Lynne song which also appeared later on ELO's `New world Record' album

      What we have in the end is a great reminder of what a stunning and underrated band the move were we have the routes of the Birmingham sound which spawned Black Sabbath ELO and many other bands. Buy this and I don't think you will be disappointed.
