We already had a chance to listen to the other two "foreign" albums in this cycle. However, this one is diferent in several ways. First, it doesn't contain artist's own compositions (except for the bonus tracks). This album consists in its entirety of traditional Russian folk songs. Second, again with the exception of the bonus tracks, it is sung in Russian. And third, the Russian songs are performed by Czeslaw Niemen alone.
Czeslaw Niemen was born as Czeslaw Juliusz Wydrzycki on February 16, 1939, in a small town Wasiliszki, Grodno Region, area that now belongs to Belarus (used to be a part of Poland before WW II and a part of USSR after the war).Having this in mind it is quite understandable that he knew and could sing those traditional songs in Russian. One of them (I wonder if you can recognize it) he even included on his second Polish album "Sukces".
This album, even though not in a prog-rock vein by any means, is still a beautiful collection of songs and shows quite well Niemen as a great vocalist and a very good musician.
And one more note. As with all his "foreign" albums, this one was not published in Poland at the time and was unknown to the public which might have appreciated it the most....
