      Fairport Convention - Live At The BBC (1967 - 1974)

      Four-discs of unearthed BBC recordings from heyday of the Brit folk-rock aristocrats.

      The band credited with inventing British folk-rock are most fondly remembered for their first few brilliant years after forming in April 1967. This four CD set – their complete surviving BBC radio recordings, newly 'discovered' in time for their 40th anniversary (yeah, right…) chronicles that fascinating, prolific and turbulent period as Fairport Convention morphed from being a quirky answer to Jefferson Airplane that relied heavily on American material to English traditionalists who wrote their own genre-forming songs.

      The first three discs cover mid-1968 until their final session for the late John Peel in August 1974, highlighting the iconic voice of Sandy Denny, who left and then rejoined during this period. The 'off-air' Disc 4 is rather lo-fi, but has interesting examples of performances by their first female singer, Judy Dyble, and possibly the weirdest cover of The Doors' Light My Fire ever committed to tape. Indispensable for Fairport completists.
