      1:Alice Babs - Been to Canaan.(-73) Alice started as singer/movie star in movies that was blamed for moral decay (1940´s) because of the jazz music. In 1959 she appeared in Ed Sullivan Show and paled Coconut Grove in L.A with Swedanes. She later became Duke Ellingtons fav vocalist. His 2nd and 3rd Sacred Concerts was writen for her voice. He said if she doesent sing I need to use 3 different vocalist when recording. ...her voice has an amazing span. This track is a cover of Carole Kings song which she heard her daughter play. Playing on this song is the swedish jazz elite from back in the day and Johnny Martinez.

      2 Sabu Martinez - My Christina.(-73) One of the foremost Conga players in the world Sabu Martines came to Sweden in 1967 because of his Swedish wife. He, from N.Y spanish Harlem had played with Dizzy, Benny G, Thelonious, The Bird and Charlie Parker and vocalist like Sammy Davis Jr and Tony Bennet. In On this track u can hear Bernt Rosengren, Chrioster Boustedt and Red Mitchel. Sabu died -79.

      3. Jojje Wadenius - Mitt Sår (My wound) (-69). Jojje most famous for being Guitarist in Blood Sweat and Tears. Started out making children songs. These albums have been frequently sampled by swedish swedish hip-hoppers. This song has an amazing groove. Top Notch.

      4. Merit Hemmingson and Folkmusikgruppen - Jämtlänsk brudmarch (-73). Merit the mother of Swedish Hammond Groove. This is a bridemarch in modern clorthes (-73). Please make a search on Merit here on tracker for more info.

      5.Anthony "Reebop" Kwaku Baah - Funkum (-71). Nigeria born, came to Europe in late 60´s. Lived in Sweden 1971 Sweden 1971-74, while he first became member of Traffic and later Can. On the album "Anthony "Reebop" Kwaku Baah" hes playing with an amazing band: Ulf Andersson, Gunnar Bergsten, Bobo Stenson, Maffy Falay, Janne Schaffer, Bengt Dahlen and Eric Dahlbäck. Baah died in -82

      6.Sylvia Vreethammar. This debut single from Sylvia is a cover of Dusty S.´s "Son Of a preacher Man" The producer Rune Öfwerman say that Martin Jonson, the drummer in swedish R&B/soul/acid jazz outfit Blacknuss (see tracker) usually asks "how did u get that drum sound". Sylvia later made it big in Central Europe, especially Germany.

      7.The Impossibles - Hot Pepper -75. Band from Thailand. When they played "Trädgården" (the Garden) in Gothenburgh they where picked up by a Swedish producer. There inpirations: Blood Sweat and Tears, Chicago.

      8.Hot Salsa - Maldito Primitivo -84. Maldito Primitivo was a band led by percussionist Sabu Marinez, in wich Wilfredo Stephenson was singer/percussionist. The band dismantled in -82. When Wilfredo decided to make another go at it his Band "Hot Salsa" made Maldito Primitivo as a tribute to Sabu, who died in -79.

      9.Doris - You never come closer -70. EMI wanted her to make a pop album. She said no no. and EMI caved.. The rest is history. The album never sold much, but is today a sought after cult LP. I love this song. Top Notch.

      10.Ralph Lundsten and The Andromeda All Stars -79. Our biggest composer of electronic music. Has a world famous studio in the deep forrests of "Värmland". Here he makes what is perhaps the first Techno song of Sweden. Its been Sampled by Chenical Bros.

      11. Bernt Staf - Hovmästarsoppa. -71 Funky! Very special lyrics about a guest in a restaurant. A Swe Grammy in 71. Musicians on this is Kenny Håkanson, Fred Hellman(Kebnekaise and Dag Vag) (Kvartetten som sprängde), Sten Bergman (Fläsket Brinner). Fans of swedish progg might recognize those guys. Supurb song.

      12.Melvyn Price - Happiness is... -74 Conga man Melvyn came from Detroit and ended up on the swedish jazz scene through his friend Reebop (se above). Has played with Al Sharp, Eric Bibb, Cyndyy Peters.

      13.Archimedes Badkar + Afro 70 - Kila Mtu -78. AB´s Tommy Adolfsson went to Tanzania and meet the band Afro 70. 3 members later came to Sweden and toured with AB the summer of -78. Afro 70 is not to be cionfused with Africa 70 (sry flabber).

      14.Douglas Westlund & Kjell Öhman - The Snake -69. These dudes was members of the swe studio maffia. this ios an instrumental version of Oscar Brown Jr´s song, but in Al Wilsons Northern Soul arrangement.

      15.Modern Sound Quintet - Otinku -71.Trinidad born Rudy Smith on tin drums and George Allyn on drums came to Sweden 1968, together with John Roachford (Barbados), Seigfried MacIntosh (Surinam) and Kofi Ayivor (Ghana) they formed the band. wow.

      16.Bo Nilsson - Gorillan går ut -66. Bo wrote Tax Free, later picked up by Jimi Hendrix. Bo and Janne Carlsson jammed with Jimmi at a Stockholm nightclub and was invited to tour with him..turned him down(late 60´s). Gorillan går ut is from an OST.

      17. Stardust International and Tayfun -73. A weird name, but a great groove -- served up here in the one and only album from this obscure Swedish combo! The group have a style that borrows heavily from styles of the jazz/rock generation -- but which also comes across with a fair bit of soul as well -- a style that might be at home in the Fantasy Records scene of the 70s, but with a slightly rougher edge overall. Lyrics are in English, but the instrumentation is what sends this album over the top -- a jazzy blend of Hammond, flute, sax, trumpet, and nicely romping rhythms -
