Cottonwood – Camaraderie (1971)
Personnel: RICK ALLEN A DAVID FARRELL A DOUG PHILLIPS A GARY ROWLES gtr, vcls A DAVID WEYER A ALBUM: 1 CAMARADERIE (ABC ABCS-729) 1971
From California, a short-lived outfit formed by the guitarist Gary Rowles after Love broke up. The music reflects the sleeve: bearded men running in the fields or meditating by the sea. It may sound quite naive and dated now. Rowles would later back Flo and Eddie and in 1973 join Richard Torrance and Eureka, an interesting Californian rock group (lovers of West Coast guitars may check their two albums on Shelter). your blog is great. I’m looking for an album by The Unspoken Word that you wrote about a long while back, if you could email me and maybe we can work something out. I’m related to one of the band members and have been looking for one of their releases for awhile now. Thanks! My email is TMacMaster@comcast.net
Cottonwood! I knew I’d see this show up someday. Dave Weyer is a close friend and near neighbor… this band ended badly. the singer OD’d the day the record was released!! Dave Weyer did work for Jimi Hendrix, modifying amps and pedals. Later did some serious synth mods…
He also has a studio where he has recorded several Deniz Tek (Radio Birdman) albums. Nice guy too
Ha..Well, well…Gary Rowles is a good friend of mine and lives up the road too…An awesome guitar player and really neat guy.

Camaraderie is my absolute favorite album!
The Cottonwood project had a lot of potential. Making the record was a great experience. Lots of time to experiment in the studio. Sadly, there were some unfortunate personal tragic events, and as a result the marketing effort was shelved by the label. It is gratifying to see that the music that was made had such an impact that it lives on today. Thank you!
A lost classic!
Knew the bass player Dave Farrell well. We grew up in Westwood,a small town in Mass. just outside of Boston. Dave was always an awesome bass player. Just found the album on ebay.
