      World Psychedelic Funk Classics wrote:

Following the success of the recently released Psych Funk 101, Brazilian Guitar Fuzz Bananas should serve as a master class for those entranced by the funky, heavy psychedelic wonders of the Tropicalia movement and all that it spawned. But as compiler Joel Stones writes in his liner notes: 'You won't find Os Mutantes or their maestro Rogerio Duprat on this compilation. There is a reason that the records contained here have never been reissued. Even though you will recognize some of the labels contained here... believe me when I write this: some of the rarest, and best, examples of fuzzy, funky Brazilian psychedelia came out as promo-only 7" records on these labels.' Each song contained on this album has never been reissued, and has been restored from the best source possible and remastered for near-perfect sound quality. The 48 page full color booklet contains a wealth of imagery and detailed annotation and liner notes in both English and Portuguese.

      Boomkat review:

Heavyweight compilation of obscure and never-before-reissued Brazilian psyche jams from the same folks who brought us the immense 'Psych Funk 101' session! As the in-depth 24 booklet accompanying the CD tells us, all the tracks on 'Brazilian Guitar Fuzz Bananas' were sourced by digger Joel Stones who, over the course of five years, waded through legions of shops, bars and favelas to guage the uncharted territory of an underground scene dominated by 1000s of one-off promo 7"s recorded on the Som Livre label or Brazilian subsidiaries of Polydor and Phillips. The resultant selection goes way beyond the well know and reissued music of Os Mutantes and their leader Rogerio Duprat, collecting 16 radically rebellious and raucous examples of Brazils melting pot culture, where 100s of years of Afro-Latin-European integration, and tropical climates (plus great coke and beautiful beaches) have created a psychedelic, seething, sexually and politically charged music that perfectly reflects its people. Celio Balona's frankly unhinged version of the Batman theme opens the disc, shocking like something JP Massiera might dream after one too many space cakes in front of the box, followed by the fuzz-drenched frenzy of Loyce E Os Gnomes, recorded in 1969 in the rural ends of the Sao Paulo region. Our favourite highlights would have to be The Youngsters cover of The Beatles 'I Wanna Be Your Man', which quite possible features legendary drummer Ivan Conti of Azymuth, and the oddball gem 'God Save The Queen' from 14 Bis, featuring lithe bass and terrific conga breaks ripes for the rip. So, if the BYG and JP Massiera comps on Finders Keepers flipped your wig, or Os Mutantes made you wear fake tan and grow your hair, make sure to fill your boots here. Highly Recommended!
