Sunbeam Records
First time on CD for the 1967 album by this Psychedelic Jazz-Rock band co-founded by Jazz guitar legend Larry Coryell and featuring one bonus track, 'I Feel A Song'. One of the first fusions of Jazz and Rock, this early experiment in sound will appeal to fans of straight-up heavy '60s jams as well.
"The Free Spirits, a New York group featuring the guitar, songwriting and singing of Larry Coryell , may have been the first band to fuse jazz and rock, investing the early psychedelic sounds of the day with adventurous, jazz-derived improvisation, horns and elastic song structures" - allmusic.com
The Free Spirits: Columbus Baker (vocals); Larry Coryell (guitar, sitar); Jim Pepper (tenor saxophone); Chris Hills (electric bass); Bob Moses (drums). Liner Note Author: Richie Unterberger.
Way ahead of its time, the Free Spirits’ radical 1967 album has never previously been available on CD. Featuring the young Larry Coryell, who made his recording debut here, the band was only together briefly but dazzled all who heard them (including Jimi Hendrix, the Doors and the Velvet Underground) with their revolutionary brand of psychedelic jazz-rock. This package comes complete with a rare non-LP bonus track, as well as previously unseen photos and detailed liner notes by Richie Unterberger.
